About Paint Correction

Paint correction is the process of mechanically removing a thin layer of clear coat to eliminate swirls, light scratches, oxidation, and water-spot etching. Done well, it restores a deep gloss that no wax or sealant alone can produce. Done badly, it can burn through clear coat — which is why machine-polishing is not a DIY job for most owners.

We typically start with a single-stage polish, which removes 60-80% of light defects and is appropriate for most daily drivers ($150-$250 depending on vehicle size). For deeper defects we step up to a two-stage or three-stage correction (separate quote, usually 4-8 hours per vehicle).

Before correction we always wash, decontaminate, and clay bar so we are not grinding bonded contaminants into the paint. After correction we strongly recommend a ceramic coating to protect the newly restored finish — otherwise the swirls come back within months from improper washing.

FAQs about Paint Correction

What is the difference between paint correction and a wax?
Wax fills swirls temporarily. Paint correction removes them. Wax wears off in weeks. Paint correction is permanent (until new swirls form). If you want a real fix, correct. If you want a quick gloss boost for a weekend, wax.
Will paint correction damage my clear coat?
Done correctly, no — we measure clear coat thickness on a test panel before doing the full car. Done poorly (heavy compound + aggressive pad + heat) it can burn through clear coat. That is why machine-polishing requires real care.
How long do the results last?
Permanently, until new swirls form. The most common cause of new swirls is improper washing (drive-through car washes, dirty wash mitts, drying with paper towels). Hand-wash with a clean microfiber mitt and dry with a fresh microfiber and the results last for years.
Should I get ceramic coating after correction?
Yes, if you want the result to last. Without protection, the swirls come back within months. A ceramic spray ($75-$120) or full nano-ceramic protects the corrected finish.
